Portfolio Development

My experience is invaluable for college or university (undergraduate or graduate), grant, program, and exhibit applications, or simply to consolidate and celebrate your skills and ideas. These sessions focus on your artwork, provide multiple reviews, and guidance on showcasing your technical skills and creative concepts through artist statements and self-reflection. We'll craft a compelling portfolio that highlights your best work and artistic growth, covering:

  • Portfolio review and feedback

  • Identifying your strongest pieces

  • Creating a cohesive narrative

Skill Building lessons

Personalized sessions are available to help you refine your technical skills and explore new artistic avenues. These materials-based lessons can introduce you to new mediums, offer opportunities for experimentation, or provide deep dives into specific techniques like drawing or linoleum carving. My goal is to help you:

  • Return to an arts practice and identify strengths.

  • Experiment with new materials to expand your artistic language.

  • Develop your personal style and infuse more of your identity into your work.

  • Overcome technical or conceptual blocks.

  • Incorporate regular art-making into your wellness routine and make creativity a regular habit.

  • Have fun making and learning!

(A materials fee may apply for supply costs over $10. See ABOUT AMELIA for a fuller list of mediums and techniques.)

Artist Statement & Presentation

Gain the practice and experience to organize and share your work confidently. I'll help you articulate your artistic vision, review your strengths and style, and put your process and artworks into words. This ensures you showcase your best self and abilities by:

  • Developing compelling artist statements

  • Refining presentation skills

  • Preparing for interviews, application descriptions and critiques

For Parents and High School Students: National Portfolio Day & Interview Preparation

I've attended National Portfolio Day events for nearly 20 years and can help students (especially 8th-12th graders, transfer, and graduate students) prepare for in-person and virtual events. These events offer direct communication with art school representatives, valuable feedback, and sometimes even on-the-spot portfolio acceptance. Early preparation (8th-11th grade) is encouraged, and I can tailor sessions for 12th graders and others to match the timing with upcoming applications and NPD events.

Let’s discuss what the perfect coaching & teaching plan looks like for you.

LOCation & Cost

Where We Meet: I offer in-person meetings at an arts studio conveniently located near Duke University in Durham, NC. Virtual meetings are also welcome, and we can discuss digital formatting and sharing during your consultation.

Hourly Rate & Packages: Benefit from my 20+ years of arts education and portfolio preparation expertise. My hourly rate of $90 - $150 (sliding scale) includes comprehensive support before, during, and after our sessions to help you achieve your artistic goals. Most sessions focus on one portfolio component and can be booked individually. Multi-session packages can be developed together for a more affordable and comprehensive experience. We'll also discuss an appropriate timeline if you have application deadlines. Please choose the rate that genuinely reflects your financial capacity, understanding that the lowest option is for those with significant need and my availability is limited.
